Oops...I missed a day
Oh well. I'll get over it.Nothing exciting. It's 10 a.m. and it's already hot enough to turn on the a/c. Oy!
I took Ayana to the dog park this morning. There were 3 dogs there, and Ayana was extremely excited and a little aggressive with them. I don't think she understands the universal sign to play. They were wanting to play, but she wasn't picking up on the signals. Or maybe I didn't give her enough time to get used to them. But frankly, after seeing some other dog's fur fly out of Ayana's mouth, I didn't want to test the theory too much. They were all retrievers of some sort. So, they were very friendly and playful and running and jumping around. It is really diffiult not knowing Ayana's history. We adopted her on January 1st, and as much as I love her, it makes me miss Doogie all the more. Doogie was very pleasant with all dogs and animals in general. If there was any conflict, it was on the part of the other dog. Doogie was so easy going that it would've taken up too much energy on her part to be aggressive. =) The most we had to worry about in her later years with other dogs was when she was around my in-law's service dog. He would always try to mount her and she just didn't know what to do, so she kept walking away from him, which made him more excited. I kept telling her to sit down or lay down so he would stop, but she was so frantic about the attention, she just kept walking away from him. Finally, I just started calling her a tease. =)
As far as we can tell, Ayana is a true alpha dog. So, we have to really monitor her around other big dogs. Small dogs are great! She LOVES playing with them! Our neighbor has a pug that she loves running along the fence with. She has so much fun. I think it all goes back to her past that we don't know about. Ugh... I wish I could read her mind and know.
