Xmas Q&A ... stolen from Elaine who stole it from Erin...

Now I'm not proud of this, but it's the easiest way to a) post a blog entry, and b) procrastinate studying.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? This is the only time of year I will drink Egg Nog. I can drink hot chocolate anytime of year. (Actually I can drink egg nog anytime either, but that's not the issue) the point is: The season begs for egg nog and dammit, I'm beggin' too.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? I've heard of both, but I'm familiar with every present being wrapped. Even from Santa.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? The upstair's tree has red lights, the downstair's tree has clear.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? No.

5. When do you put your decorations up? Thanksgiving weekend. NOT A DAY BEFORE!!!!!!!!!!! NO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS!!! THAT'S SO WRONG!!!!!!!!

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? At my family's holidays I love pierogies!!! They are made fresh at the Polish market down the street from my grandma.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Once my brother became a teenager and was "too cool" for Christmas morning presents with mom, dad, and little sister, he would hide under his blanket when we opened presents. He didn't want to wake up in the AM to begin with, let alone his little sister waking him up early to open presents!!! I always think about him hiding under his comforter and opening his presents away from my mom taking pictures!!!

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I can't remember the moment I learned about the truth. But I do remember figuring out that the Santa who was giving out presents on Christmas Eve at grandma's was my uncle. I made mention of it to someone, and I think it was the next year that they hired one of my uncle's friends to be Santa. =)

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Not anymore. I don't get as many gifts anymore since I'm an adult. My parents let my brother and me open 1 present on Christmas Eve. But that was even hard to talk them into because we also opened presents at grandma's on Christmas Eve.

10. What kind of cookies does Santa get set out for him? Something with peanut butter and chocolate (that's what "Santa" liked)

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I like the look of it, but I don't like driving in it or shoveling it.

12. Can you ice skate? barely. Enough to skate around the rink in Fort Worth/Dallas, Texas with Elaine and Amanda. I stayed close to the edge. =)

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? The dancing ballerina doll I got when I was like 7 or something. She wore a plastic pink crown that was attached to her head and when you pushed down in the middle of it, she twirled around and kicked her leg up. She wore a little tutu and I loved it!!! I think my Uncle Joe got it for me.

14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? relaxing and enjoying time with family. That's why I love going to Alabama for Christmas now. Everyone is just so casual and relaxed and we enjoy each other's company.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? kolaches (ko--lah-ch--kees) A Polish pastry with fruit topping.

16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? It's actually a memory now...we had the tradition of going to grandma's on Christmas Eve. we would eat dinner first, then go to 5pm mass which was also the children's mass, then came back to grandma's to sing Christmas carols loud enough so the Santa could hear us and bring us presents. He would come, then we would all, adults and children, each get a present from Santa and get our picture taken with Santa. Then we would open presents, play with toys, get dressed in pj's, drove the 30 minute drive home and sleep on the way home. Ahhh....so sweet to remember those days...

17. What tops your tree? We use Doogie's old Santa hat as our tree topper. I would always take her holiday pictures with the hat on her, and now she can still be with us for the holidays. =) =)

18. Which do you prefer Giving or Receiving? Both

19. What is your favorite Christmas Carol? "Let It Snow" and most of the songs on the John Denver with the Muppets record. =) =)

20. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum? I only like the fruity flavored candy canes, like cherry. I don't like peppermint candy canes.

awww, I loved the part about Doogie's Santa hat. This is your first Xmas with Ayana, isn't it? Are you going to start Xmas traditions with her, too?
