Sweet Home Alabama

Ok, not really "home", but damn close enough.

Hubby and I are taking a road trip to see the best little girl and boy in the world!! My niece and nephew!!! We are actually planning more in advance than usual. We are planning to visit and tour Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY on our way down there. It's a place hubby has wanted to visit EVERY TIME we pass it, but we've never actively set aside time for. This trip, we are.

I'm torn. On one hand I'm very curious to see the grounds and visit the place that host the most exciting 2 minutes in sports annually, but on the other hand my love and caring of those horses and how they are treated make me feel that 'liberal guilt' that the Pre-Teen Braves on The Simpsons spoke about when they went to clean the forest. I know that if the horses get that far, they most assuredly get the most royal treatment and care that money can buy, right? It's not like that cheap harness horse racing a few miles down the street? Or those ill-repute greyhound race tracks? Please tell me it's okay to go. I just won't buy any souvenirs and I'll make my hubby buy me my ticket. Like I said, I'm very curious, but torn. I'm also wondering if the neighborhood is like the Indianapolis Speedway neighborhood...historical racing track, but in a questionable neighborhood. Not that it's bad (Hooch...), just coming from out of town you don't know right away if it's safe to stay at the chain hotel or motel that is down the street.
