Sweet Home, Chicago...
Can't wait to go back to Chicago. Maybe eat some favorite foods that Detroiters have no concept of preparing. Maybe see some city sites that Detroit lacks because they don't want to put forth the money and work to have a decent city that people would want to spend time in outside of the Mon-Fri 9-5 routine. Maybe see some friends that are smart enough not to live in Detroit. It's not that Detroit is so bad, it's just that I'm not a big fan of the place. How many people would honestly rank Detroit over Chicago in places they'd prefer to be?? Really?? Excluding knowing people, just basing it on places to go, things to see and do. Wouldn't Chicago always be tops??? Seriously. The only things Detroit has going for it right now are the All-Star game and Super Bowl XL. After that, why else would you come to Detroit? Speaking of annual sporting events and the city of Detroit: how the hell is Detroit going to entertain visitors when a game is not in progress? Not much else to do here unless you have tickets to the orchestra or a play. No real city sites or museums. Sure sure sure....the science museum and Detroit Institute of Arts...blah blah blah...after those 2 places are exhausted, then where?? Chicago has a hell of a lot more. It's too bad Daley wasn't smart enough to put a dome on Soldier Field in order to be eligible for a Super Bowl. If you're going to bastardize a landmark, you might as well make it suitable to host a Super Bowl and get more revenue out of it.
I never truly appreciated Chicago until I started going back for visits with my hubby. He showed me how to take advantage of the city and really enjoy it more. He's so great. =) I'm so glad we got married there. Mmm...Giordano's pizza...
Anyways, we take the train whenever we're in the city, and that's something I never did while growing up 30 minutes away from the city. He introduced me to Wrigleyville. He taught me you NEVER keep a home run ball that was hit by the opposing team at Wrigley, unless you have a death wish. And you NEVER do the wave at Wrigley. It's just in bad taste at such an honored stadium. And of course, we all learned from the misguided fan from years ago, you NEVER NEVER NEVER interfere with a ball in play!!!!!!!! No matter what stadium you're at!!! But ESPECIALLY not in a playoff game. What a twit.
So, I can't wait to go back to Chicago. It's fun. It has my family and friends. I wish I could afford living there now. Hubby and I have talked about getting a condo on the lakefront and living downtown with all the action and city attractions available. Taking the train everywhere. Walking along the lakefront. Take the dog to the dog beach. Well, I guess not so much that one since Ayana hates the water, but the next dog we get will be a water dog... =) We'll look for a lab or retriever. So, when hell freezes over seems to be the timeline for us moving to the lakefront. Unless of course, we win the lottery. Then I am SOOOOOOOO moving that minute, and just sending for my things later.

ITA on your post. Don't tell your better half, but I hated Detroit. Not that Cheesecake City is exactly a booming metropolis of taste and culture, but...
Additionally, I learned that one about not touching a ball in play the hard way at a company picnic. It was rolling...who knew that counted?
