Excited
Can I just say how excited I am about next Tuesday?!? Does anyone, other than my husband, know why? DVD release of The Little Mermaid!!!! =) =) I love that movie! I also love Beauty and the Beast. But I think I missed the opportunity to buy it on DVD. I guess I'll have to wait for that. Unless I'm totally mistaken and it's available, or whatever...The reason I love those 2 movies:
They are not the typical Disney princess movies. They do not NEED a man to rescue them. In fact, Belle rescues the beast. And you even learn that you can love someone for their personality and insides as opposed to focusing on the Prince Charming good looks. Ariel wanted to leave the ocean and explore life on land for herself. She didn't do it for a man, she did it for her own curiosities. She happened to find a man in the process. Sure you can find some old stand-by cliches in them, but for the most part, they didn't need a man to kiss them awake from a deep sleep, rescue them with a kiss from a poison apple, or fit the glass slipper on their foot and rescue them from the evil stepmom. Nope. They were independent women rescuing the man and looking for a good time. =) Hell yeah!!!
Also, Belle was booksmart and intelligent in her own right, and not submissive to a guy's whim (ex.: Gaston).
